Day 5: Sensory Lifestyle Challenge

DAY 5 CHALLENGE: SPRAY WITH COLOR

Let’s put some color into your day today through this fun spraying activity.

Using a spray bottle is not only fun for the kids but it’s also a great way to strengthen all the little muscles in their hands. It also teaches your child how to separate their hand into two parts, which is an essential skill required for many fine motor skills such as cutting and writing.

If this is the first time your child is handling a spray bottle they might use two hands to squeeze the lever. As their strength and skill builds they will only need one hand to squeeze.

Spray & Color

Out of your supply list get the following items ready:

  • Spray Bottle
  • Food coloring or water color paint (for more rich colors)
  • Large white paper

Targeted Senses Skills Developed
Tactile sense Fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, hand strengthening and eye hand coordination

Set Up

This activity is best done outside. To get started stick a large white paper on a vertical surface. A wall or a fence will do.

Next, place colored water (water with food coloring/ water color paint) into a spray bottle. You can change the colors or use few bottles with a different color in each.

Once the paper is secured let them spray the various colored water onto the paper. Ideas on what they can create:

  1. Little ones can create fireworks
  2. The the older kids can make blobs that once dry can be turned into monsters or aliens
  3. If you’re up to it, you can cut out various shapes or designs (see picture below) and let them spray that.
